ഒരേ കടല് - Update
ഇന്നു മലയാളത്തില് സജീവമായി പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്ന മിക്ക സിനിമാക്കാരുടേയും മേലയാണ്, ബുദ്ധിപരമായി ശ്യാമപ്രസാദിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം. അടുത്തകാലങ്ങളിലിറങ്ങിയ മിക്ക മലയാള സിനിമകളില് നിന്നും വ്യത്യസ്തമായി, പണം മാത്രം ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കാതെ, സിനിമയെ respect-ഓടുകൂടി സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു, അദ്ദേഹമിവിടെ. നല്ല സിനിമ ഉണ്ടായിക്കാണാന് നമുക്കെല്ലാവര്ക്കും ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ട്, അതുകൊണ്ട് നമുക്കീ പരിശ്രമത്തെ പ്രകീര്ത്തിക്കാം. പക്ഷെ ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു സമീപനം ഉണ്ടായതുകൊണ്ടു മാത്രം സിനിമ മികച്ചതാവണമെന്നില്ലല്ലോ. ( ഇതിനു മുന്പുളള നിരൂപണം കാണാത്തവര് ആദ്യം അത് വായിക്കാന് താല്പര്യപ്പെടുന്നു. )
സിനിമ പ്രാഥമികമായി ഒരു ദൃശ്യ കലയാണ്. ഒരു നല്ല സിനിമ കാഴ്ചകളിലൂടെയാണ് കഥ പറയുക. എന്നാല് ഇതൊരു സാമാന്യ തത്ത്വം മാത്രമാണ്, ഇങ്ങിനെയല്ലാതെയും സിനിമ ആസ്വാദ്യമാക്കാം. ‘12 Angry Men’ എന്ന ആ പഴയ ചിത്രം ഓര്മ്മയില്ലേ? 96 മിനിട്ട് ദൈര്ഘ്യമുളള ആ സിനിമ, വെറും മൂന്ന് മിനിട്ടൊഴികെ ബാക്കി സമയം മുഴുവന് ഒരേയൊരു മുറിക്കുളളില് വെച്ച് മാത്രമാണ് ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. അമേരിക്കയിലെ ഒരു കോടതിയില് വാദത്തിനു ശേഷം, പന്ത്രണ്ട് ജൂറി അംഗങ്ങള് കൊലപാതകി എന്നു സംശയിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു കറുത്ത വര്ഗ്ഗക്കാരനെ വിധിക്കുവാന് വേണ്ടി ഒരു മുറിക്കുളളിലിരുന്ന് ചര്ച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ് സിനിമ. ജൂറി അംഗങ്ങള് മുഴുവന് വെളളക്കാര്; അവരുടെ മുന്വിധികളും ചുറ്റുപാടുകളും മാനസ്സികാവസ്ഥയും മറ്റും എങ്ങിനെ മറ്റൊരാളുടെ വിധിയെ സ്വാധാനിക്കുന്നു എന്നുളളതിനെക്കുറിച്ചുളള ഒരു വിശകലനം. സിനിമയെക്കുറിച്ച് മേല്പറഞ്ഞ സാമാന്യ തത്ത്വത്തിന് എതിരായുളള ഒരു ചിത്രമാണിത്. എന്നാല് ഈ സിനിമ നമ്മളെ ഒരു നിമിഷം പോലും ബോറടിപ്പിക്കുന്നില്ല. ( ഇതേ കഥ ആദ്യം ഒരു teleplay ആയി ടെലിവിഷനില് വന്നതാണ്. ) എന്തുകൊണ്ട് ഈ ചിത്രം ഇന്നും നമ്മളെ പിടിച്ചിരുത്തുന്നു? ഇതിന്റെ തിരക്കഥയും വിഷയവും അത്രകണ്ട് നല്ലതാണ്. അതു മാത്രമാണോ? സിനിമ നന്നായതില് സംവിധായകന് പങ്കൊന്നുമില്ലേ? ധാരാളം. ഒരുദാഹരണം: പ്രസ്തുത മുറിയിലെ ചര്ച്ച പുരോഗമിക്കുന്തോറും സംവിധായകന് ലെന്സുകളുടെ focal length കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു – അപ്പോള് background, കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളോട് കൂടുതല് അടുത്തു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. ഇങ്ങിനെ ചെയ്യുക വഴി കൂടുതല് claustrophobic തോന്നല് ഉണ്ടാക്കാന് സാധിച്ചു, കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടെ പിരിമുറുക്കം അതുവഴി സംവിധായകന് പ്രതിഫലിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇങ്ങിനെയുളള ടെക്കനീക്കുകളാണ് ഒരു സംവിധായകന്റെ ഭാഷ, അയാളുടെ കല. ഒരു ടെലിഫില്മിന്റെ ഛായയുളള ‘ഒരേ കടലി’ല് അതിന്റെ സംവിധായകന് innovative ആയി എന്താണ് കാട്ടിയിട്ടുളളത്?
ചിത്രത്തിനാധാരമായ ‘ഹീരക് ദീപ്തി’ എന്ന ബംഗാളി നോവല് ഞാന് വായിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ട് ശ്യാമപ്രസാദ് മൂലകൃതിയില് നിന്ന് എത്രത്തോളം വ്യതിചലിച്ചു എന്നറിയില്ല. നായകന് തരക്കേടില്ലാത്ത പെണ്ണുപിടിയനാണ്. എന്നിട്ടും അയാള് ദീപ്തി എന്ന വീട്ടമ്മയുമായി രമിക്കുമ്പോള് condom ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നില്ല. മറ്റു പെണ്ണുങ്ങളും അയാളുടെ മുറി സ്ഥിരം സന്ദര്ശിക്കാറുണ്ട്, അപ്പോള് അയാളുടെ മുറിയില് condom സ്റ്റോക്ക് ഇല്ലാതെ വരുമോ? പെട്ടെന്നുണ്ടായ വികാരത്തളളിച്ചയില് അല്ല, അയാളും ദീപ്തിയും കിടക്ക പങ്കിടുന്നത്. സമയമെടുത്ത് തന്നെയാണ് അയാളവളെ വശീകരിക്കുന്നത്. ഉറ ഉപയോഗിക്കാതിരുന്നതിനുളള ഏക excuse ആയി പറയാവുന്നത് അയാളപ്പോള് മദ്യപിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്നുളളതാണ്. അങ്ങിനെയെങ്കില് എന്തുകൊണ്ട് അയാള് പിന്നീടൊരിക്കല് പോലും മദ്യത്തിനെ പഴിക്കുന്നില്ല? ഉറ ഉപയോഗിക്കാന് ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട് കോടിക്കണക്കിന് രൂപ ചിലവാക്കി സര്ക്കാര് ടി. വി. യിലും പത്രങ്ങളിലും മറ്റും പരസ്യങ്ങള് നല്കിയിട്ടും നമ്മുടെ വിദ്യാസമ്പന്നനായ നായകനെ സ്വാധീനിക്കാന് കഴിയാത്തത് കഷ്ടമായിപ്പോയി.
ഒരിക്കല് മാത്രം ലൈംഗികബന്ധത്തിലേര്പ്പെട്ട്, അടുത്ത രംഗത്തില് ശര്ദ്ദിക്കുന്ന സ്ത്രീകളെ ഇന്ത്യന് സിനിമയില് നാം എത്രമാത്രം കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു! അങ്ങിനെയുളള മറ്റൊരു ഇര മാത്രമാണ് ദീപ്തി. ‘നീലക്കുയില്’ മുതല് കാണുന്ന കഥാപാത്രത്തിന്റെ ഒരു വകഭേദം. അതഭിനയിച്ച് ഫലിപ്പിക്കാന് അല്പം തഴക്കമുളള ഒരു നടിക്ക് അധികം കഷ്ടപ്പെടണ്ട. എന്നാല് നായകകഥാപാത്രം ഇന്ത്യന് സിനിമയില് അധികം കാണാത്ത ഒന്നാണ്. പരോക്ഷമായി താന് നടത്തുന്ന manipulation-കള്ക്ക് ആദ്യം ഉത്തരവാദിത്തം ഏറ്റെടുക്കാന് തയ്യാറാവാത്ത, പിന്നീട് പശ്ചാത്താപം കൊണ്ട് ( പശ്ചാത്തപിക്കുമ്പോള് അയാള് ഉത്തരവാദിത്തം ഏറ്റെടുത്തു എന്നാണല്ലോ അര്ത്ഥം വരുക ) വീര്പ്പുമുട്ടുന്ന, ഉത്തരമില്ലാതലയുന്ന അയാളുടെ കലുഷിതമായ മനസ്സ് അവതരിപ്പിക്കണമെങ്കില് - ഫാന്സുകാര് ക്ഷമിക്കുക - മമ്മൂട്ടി പോര. പത്രക്കാര്ക്കു വേണ്ടി കുഷ്ഠരോഗികളെ കെട്ടിപ്പിടിക്കുന്ന രാഷ്ട്രീയക്കാരെ പോലെയാണ് മമ്മൂട്ടി മീരാ ജാസ്മിനെ ആലിംഗനം ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഒരു പക്ഷെ ക്ലീന് ഇമേജിനു വേണ്ടിയാവും അദ്ദേഹം പെണ്ണുങ്ങളെ ‘തൊട്ട്’ അഭിനയിക്കാത്തത്! നായികയുമായി ശാരീരികമായി ഇടപഴകുന്ന മര്മ്മപ്രധാനമായ രംഗങ്ങളില് പോലും ഇത്രക്ക് conscious ആയി നില്ക്കുന്ന ഒരു നടന്, എങ്ങനെ മേല്പറഞ്ഞതരം ഒരു കഥാപാത്രത്തെ മനസ്സിലാക്കാന് പോലുമാവും? കളളുകുടിച്ച് കരഞ്ഞുവിളിക്കുന്ന ഒരു സാദാ കാമുകന്റെയപ്പുറത്തേക്ക്, നാഥന് എന്ന നായകന്റെ മനസ്സിലുണ്ടാകുന്ന വേലിയേറ്റങ്ങളെ അവതരിപ്പിക്കാന് അദ്ദഹത്തിന് സാധിക്കുന്നില്ല.
ദീപ്തി എന്ന രണ്ടു കുട്ടികളുടെ അമ്മ എടുക്കുന്ന ‘ധീരമായ’ ഒരു തീരുമാനത്തോടെയാണ് സിനിമ അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്. പക്ഷെ ആ തീരുമാനം മറ്റൊരു മനുഷ്യനോടുളള വഞ്ചനയാണ്. ആ വഞ്ചനയില് നാഥനും ഒരുപോലെ പങ്കുണ്ട്. അത് മറ്റൊരു പശ്ചാത്താപ പരവേശത്തിനല്ലേ ഇട നല്കൂ? ന്യായമായും അവരുടെ മനസ്സ് വീണ്ടും പിടഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും. അങ്ങിനെയുളളപ്പോള് എന്തിന് ഇങ്ങിനെയൊരു ബാലിശമായ ‘ഉത്തരം’ സംവിധായകന് കഥയ്ക്ക് നല്കി? അല്ലെങ്കില്, പ്രതിവിധിയില്ലാത്ത യാതനായാത്രയിലെ ഒരിടവേള മാത്രമാണിതെന്ന ഒരു സൂചനയെങ്കിലും എന്തുകൊണ്ട് തന്നില്ല?
ചിത്രം നിങ്ങള് കാണണം. ഇത്തരം ഉദ്ദ്യമങ്ങള് വിജയിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടത് നമ്മുടെ കൂടി ആവശ്യമാണ്. നല്ല സിനിമകളിലേക്കുളള ആത്മാര്ത്ഥമായ ചവിട്ടുപടിയാണിത്. മേല്പറഞ്ഞതരം ഒരു വിശകലനം അര്ഹിക്കുന്ന എത്ര ഇന്ത്യന് സിനിമകള് ഇപ്പോഴിറങ്ങുന്നുണ്ട്!

Who is the writer of the reviews on this site.This site doesnot look like film review site;it merely looks like a bunch of people howling over films in a theatre.The language you use is pathetic too.If you dont know what a film review is then dont try to write one, plz.Ore kadal to me was a brilliant film,well people can have different views about a film but a reviewer should atleast try to cover all angles.
I once again tell ,plz Use a decent language.Even if a film is crap the reviews shouldnot use such lowclass comments.Mind u u r writing a review and not a comment.Always remember this.

I saw the film after reading the first review of this.
I was expecting a bad film, the reason behind watching this film is the people who commented about the film not the critc (I am using this name because I never felt the first one was a review, but it is more of critc characteristics).
I was impressed with the flaw of the film in the first half till interval.
But when it was in the second half I felt the lack of tempo, which it had in the first half.
To point out the positives, good background score, good lighting, and good use of the song and casting.
I expected to see the talents of Shyamaprasad and Mamootty, but to be honest I felt the lack of charisma in both of them. I could not see the real talent of Shayamaprasad which we saw in films like Agnisakshi and the telefilms. The films like Vidheyan, Ponthanmaada and Mathilukal and many others showed us the talent of Mammootty, but in this film it was his shadow. I never felt his presence in the screen. In the romantic scenes (rather lusty scenes) I really felt the lack of intimacy between Nathan and Deepthy. The way in which he tell her that “she is beautiful”, itself wasn’t natural.
I saw a lot of comments about the “English of Nathan”, it is true, when Indians speak English it will be difficult to have US accent.
The good news is we have a few actors and actress who can carry the torch to the future.
To name, Naren he was superb, should be appreciated. Remya Krishnan, she was awesome, nice to see her back. Meera Jasmine did her job very well; she was able to pass her pain and feelings to the audience. Not a hint of over acting that we saw in her last few films.
At times the camera showed some electric lines, I could not understand what it meant, I would appreciate if some one could tell me what it means.
Finally I want to, no its my doubt, how can a person can speak with out influence of alcohol even after drinking the entire day.
റിവ്യൂ നന്നായിരിക്കുന്നു. മൂലകൃതിയില് നിന്ന് കാര്യമായ വ്യതിയാനങ്ങളൊന്നും കൂടാതെയാണ് തിരക്കഥ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ശ്യാമപ്രസാദ് പറയുകയുണ്ടായി, അപ്പോള് ക്ലൈമാക്സും ഏതാണ്ട് അതു തന്നെ ആയിരിക്കുമല്ലോ. ഏന്തായാലും എനിക്ക് ചിത്രം നന്നായി ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. മമ്മൂക്കയെപ്പോലൊരു സൂപ്പര്താരം ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു കഥാപാത്രം ചെയ്യാനുള്ള ചങ്കൂറ്റം കാണിച്ചു എന്നതുതന്നെ വലിയ കാര്യം ആണ്.
മീര വളരെ പക്വമായി അഭിനയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഒരു അവാര്ഡ് ഉറപ്പാണ്.

I have been checking out your reviews for sometime now , as few of my friends recommended it to be a good site .
But i have realised that , the reviewer is highly ignorant of what criticism or reviewing is all about .
You have no idea about what a constructive criticism is , you merely try to draw in more crowd by using offensive language and cheap comedies .
Again , i changed my mind and started reading your reviews without giving much importance to the fact about it ,but just reading it like a comic .
But now , here you have reviewed as a serious critic , comparing a legendary film like 12 angry men .
Hence i resopnd , and let me tell you that you must bother to watch more films of such nature , and try to understand film making as a whole .
You are stuck with a stupid reasoning of inability of an actor to perform ‘Certain’ scenes well , and then upon the use of Condoms …. Ha Ha, pathetic brother .
Film making as you understand is not just about Adjusting Focal length or answering a unwanted impregnation .
If you still dont get it , listen carefully .
The director is not trying to tell us about the reduced rubber taxes and hence the high use of condoms , but about a person who trying to find an answer to his own life .
I agree upon certain criticism of yours , as the inability of mammootty do certain roles , and few others , but the bottomline is that you have bitterly failed to provide any kind of constructive critiscism

This review is good . These kind of movies desreve to be commented as well. I didnt see your usual cynicism in Shyam’s movie review. You are blessed in life that you are only watching malayalam moviews, if posisble please see the attempted suicides of hindi cinema, then tell me how blessed we are with directors like Shyam, Kamal, Sibi Malayil, Lohithadas ( once upon a time) Roshan Andrews, Lal Jose and off course with ever green meastros like Mammooty and Lal..

മമ്മുട്ടി ആ പടത്തില് പരമ ബോറാണ് ചേട്ടന്മാരെ.
ഒരു പുതിയ ശ്രമം എന്ന രീതിയില് ആ പടത്തിനു പാസ് മാര്ക്ക് കൊടുക്കാം എന്നതിലപ്പുറം ഒന്നുംതന്നെ ആ പടത്തില് ഇല്ല.
അതാണ് വാസ്തവം.
കൊട്ടിഘോഷിച്ചത് കൊണ്ട് ഒന്നും നേടാനില്ല.

ഒരു പക്ഷെ ക്ലീന് ഇമേജിനു വേണ്ടിയാവും അദ്ദേഹം പെണ്ണുങ്ങളെ ‘തൊട്ട്’ അഭിനയിക്കാത്തത്! നായികയുമായി ശാരീരികമായി ഇടപഴകുന്ന മര്മ്മപ്രധാനമായ രംഗങ്ങളില് പോലും ഇത്രക്ക് conscious ആയി നില്ക്കുന്ന ഒരു നടന്, എങ്ങനെ മേല്പറഞ്ഞതരം ഒരു കഥാപാത്രത്തെ മനസ്സിലാക്കാന് പോലുമാവും?

I am a regular reader of reviews on this site.
My request to others is to ‘calibrate’ these reviews before you start shouting at the author. I know that the author of these reviews is usually very harsh on most movies. hence I apply my own ‘multiplication factor’ to determine whether a movie is worth watching or not. for example, after reading the review of ..say,..”Kitchamani MBA”, I understood that whatever ‘multiplication factor’ i use, the movie is not worth watching. similarly, when I see the review of ‘Ore Kadal’ I see that the movie is not very bad.
This site is a perfect antidote to those so-called reviews that appear on TV channels and magazines, which are really advertisements. my request to the author of this site is to please continue your attack on the movies - please remember that the number of people who read your reviews and get benefited from them are much more than the odd specimens that spew venom on you thru comments here.

This movie is good to watch. In theatore some scenes everybody was holding their breeth. Meera Jasmine is too good. Movie is like good palpayasam having little sugar or salt(which can’t be identified).
Mamooty is too bad in this movie . I don’t know why people are telling he is Mega statr and giving Mohan lal second position by calling him super star ?.
Mamooty is not a flexible actor . He can’t do comedy, he can’t dance . he can’t act as singer, dancer, thabalist etc . I mean to say he can’t take any roles of perfomanist. He can’t mingle with his co starts/comedians . He can’t mingle with actors of opposite sex .
Simply he cant do Romance…
Out of Navarasam ‘Sringaram’ is considered as the King.. If mammoty tryes it, it will look like “Onthu Mooki pody valikkum pole”…..
If any of his fans give some filim names that he done Sringaram atleat at 40% perfection. plzz. It is horrible and unsahikable
