Of ദി പീപ്പിള്
മലയാളസിനിമകള് കണ്ട് കണ്ട് എനിക്കും ശ്രീനിക്കും നല്ല ക്ഷമയാണ്. അല്പമെങ്കിലും പിടിച്ചിരിക്കാമെങ്കില്, സിനിമ മുഴുവന് കണ്ടിട്ടേ ഞങ്ങള് തിയറ്റര് വിടൂ. പക്ഷെ നവാഗതനായ ശ്രീകുമാര് ശ്രേയസ് എഴുതി, ജയരാജ് തട്ടിക്കൂട്ടിയ ഈ സിനിമയില് നിന്നും ഇടവേള ആയപ്പോഴേക്കും ഞങ്ങള് ഓടി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു.
കേരളത്തിലെ എറ്റവും overrated ആയിട്ടുളള സംവിധായകനാണ് ജയരാജ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യത്തെ രണ്ടുമൂന്ന് സിനിമകള് കണ്ടിരിക്കാവുന്നവയായിരുന്നു. അന്ധവിശ്വാസങ്ങള് കുത്തിനിറക്കുന്നതെങ്കിലും, ‘പൈതൃക’വും തരക്കേടില്ലായിരുന്നു. പിന്നെയുളളതൊക്കെതന്നെ മൂന്നാംതരവും നാലാംതരവുമാണ്. ‘അശ്വാരൂഢന്’ പോലുളള വെറും waste സിനിമകള് കണ്ടിട്ട് “ജയരാജിന് എന്ത് പറ്റി?” എന്ന് ജനങ്ങള് ചോദിക്കുന്നത് എന്തിനെന്ന് ഞാന് അത്ഭുതപ്പെടാറുണ്ട്. ജയരാജിന് ഒന്നും പറ്റിയിട്ടില്ല, ഇതാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നിലവാരം.
ഇറങ്ങിയ ഉടനെ “bye bye” പറഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ട് ‘By ദി പീപ്പിള്’ എനിക്ക് കാണാന് സാധിച്ചില്ല. ‘4 ദി പീപ്പിള്’ എന്ന സിനിമയുടെ തുടര്ച്ചയാണ് ‘Of ദി പീപ്പിള്’. ( ഭാഗ്യത്തിന് ലിങ്കണ് ഈ മൂന്ന് വാചകങ്ങളില് നിര്ത്തി. ഇല്ലെങ്കില് ഇനിയും ഇത്തരം ‘Kill ദി പീപ്പിള്’ ഇറങ്ങിയേനേ. )
മൂന്നാല് ചെറുപ്പക്കാര് അഴിമതിക്കെതിരെ ആയുധമെടുക്കുന്നത് തന്നെയാണ് ഇതിന്റേയും കഥ. ചടുലമായി കഥപറഞ്ഞ ‘4 ദി പീപ്പിളി’ല് പുതുമയുളള പാട്ടുകള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. സാധാരണ നമ്മുടെ സിനിമകളില് കാണാറുളള കമ്പ്യൂട്ടര് / ഇന്റര്നെറ്റ് വിഡ്ഢിത്തങ്ങള് ഒട്ടൊക്കെ അതില് ഒഴിവാക്കിയിട്ടുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് ആ സിനിമ കണ്ടിരിക്കാമായിരുന്നു. ‘Of ദി പീപ്പിള്’ എന്ന സിനിമയില് കാണുന്ന ഇന്റര്നെറ്റ് സംവിധാനം science fiction സിനിമകളിലേത് പോലെയാണ്. ഇരുണ്ട സത്യങ്ങള് വരച്ചുകാട്ടുന്നുവെന്ന വ്യാജേന എടുക്കുന്ന സിനിമയിലെങ്കിലും എന്തെങ്കിലും യാഥാര്ത്ഥ്യബോധം വേണ്ടേ? ആ വിവരമില്ലായ്മ പോട്ടെ. നായകര്ക്ക് ഒരു വെബ്സൈറ്റ് ഉണ്ട്. അതിന്റെ homepage-ല് വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ചിത്രങ്ങളാരുടെയൊക്കയെന്നോ? ഗാന്ധിജിയുടേയും ചെഗ്വേരയുടേയും!! ഇവര് തമ്മിലെന്ത് ബന്ധം?! ഒളിഞ്ഞിരുന്ന് വെട്ടുന്നവര്ക്ക് ചെഗ്വേര മാത്രം പോരായിരുന്നോ?
സിനിമയിലെ സീനുകളൊക്കെ അടുത്തകാലങ്ങളിലെ പത്രവാര്ത്തകളും രാഷ്ട്രീയസംഭവവികാസങ്ങളുമാണ്. ക്ലീഷേ അല്ലാത്ത ഒരൊറ്റ രംഗമോ സംഭാഷണമോ ഇല്ല. ഇവ യാതൊരു ബന്ധവുമില്ലാതെ കോര്ത്ത് വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. സ്റ്റൈല് എന്ന ഭാവേന കാമറ കൊണ്ടുളള കസര്ത്തുകളും, ശബ്ദകോലാഹലങ്ങളും വേറെ. കൂടെ വൃത്തികെട്ട ഒരു പാട്ട്. ഇതെല്ലാം സഹിച്ചിരിക്കാം, പക്ഷെ അഭിനയം പോക്കാണെങ്കിലോ? അരുണും, പരിചയമുളള ഒന്നുരണ്ട് പേരും, പിന്നെ കുറേ പുതുമുഖങ്ങളുമാണ് നടീനടന്മാര്. എല്ലാവരും കൂടി ‘അഭിനയിച്ച്’ മനുഷ്യനെ വെറുപ്പിച്ച്കളയും. ഇടവേള ആയപ്പോഴേക്കും എങ്ങിനെയെങ്കിലും പുറത്ത് ചാടിയാല് മതി എന്നായി ഞങ്ങള്ക്ക്.
ജയരാജ് ചിത്രങ്ങള്ക്ക് ഇപ്പോഴും വിതരണക്കാരെ കിട്ടുന്നു എന്നുളളത് എന്നെ അതിശയിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അഭിനേതാക്കള്ക്കും ഇടക്കിടെ പലതരം അവാര്ഡുകള് കിട്ടുന്നത് എന്നെ ചിരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. 2008-ലെ ആദ്യചിത്രത്തിന്റെ നിലവാരം ഇതാണെന്നത് എന്നെ സങ്കടപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.

One of my friends took me to ‘by the people’, wanted to kill him, that was one of the most stupid movie i had evr seen. you were lucky in that case.
haveyou seen karunam, actors who did roles of the old couple in that movie got rave reviews, so i saw the movie, it was a horrible experience, especially the acting..!

Once again it seems the review borders ‘vyktihatya’ even though for a change the movie too is talked about. Jayaraj has made some of the best movies in malayalam, deshadanam, paithrukam, kudumbasametham, karunam, kaliyaattam etc. Unfortunately he has made some of the worst movies in malayalam too.
When the reviewer says that he is bemused that Jayaraj movies still find distributors, he needs to understand that jayaraj more often than not is a safe bet. Even his failures are made at shoe-string budgets and the loss to the producers or distributors is negligible. His successes bring huge returns as the initial investments are very low.
I start laughing when the reviewer laughs at Jayaraj movies winning awards. Deshadanam, karunam, shantham etc deserved the awards they received. Maybe this movie is not award material and I can laugh with him if this wins him a best director award at the national level.

Deshadanam, karunam, shantham ..out of these movies I didnt see karunam ,so avoiding that..the other two movies.. deshatanam was good , but Kaliyattam dont deserves anything.. what jayaraj think , if he include some “theyam” and all in the movie , it woukld become a good malayalam movie?? He can cheat some award commities with this.. The best joke of 98 was Suresh gopi won the award for best actor that year.. kaithapram has done some good songs (even thogh al are bhajana style) ..have you noticed teh way Jayaraj picturised teh songs ?? None of teh songs fit with his picturisation .. That was one of the waste move perhaps fake movie which has been overrated ..
Hey, I said Deshadanam, karunam, shantham. Why do you bring kaliyaattam in between when we speak about deserving awards? Having said that I believe kaliyaattam was a good movie, and songs were beautiful (esp, vannaathippuzha, ennodenthinee). Velikku veluppaan kaalam was picturised beautifully……..
I second Anian here…. Those movies are very good… I still love watching them… You people missed out one movie, “Sneham”. That was also an excellent movie from him…. based on “Navarasa” he made, Shantham Karunam and Bheebhatha…… Among that Bheebhathsa was a Hindi and yet to hit theatres…. Its very unfortunate that, he has made some worst movies as well… But still…. he deserves a pat on his back for his contributions to malayalam film industry….
NB: I don’t think that Suresh Gopi deserved a National Award for the performance in kaliyattam, even Lal was better than him, in that movie…. Credit goes to Jayaraj to find out the acting skill in Lal to give us another good actor…
