സൌണ്ട് ഓഫ് ബൂട്ട്
മൂന്ന് ഉന്നത പൊലീസുകാര് ഉദ്യോഗത്തില് നിന്ന് ഒരുമിച്ച് വിരമിക്കുന്നു. തുടര്ന്ന്, അവരെ ഓരോരുത്തരെയായി ആരോ കൊലപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു. ഈ കൊലപാതകങ്ങള് S.P. സിദ്ധാര്ത്ഥന് ( സുരേഷ് ഗോപി ) അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതാണ് രാജേഷ് ജയരാമന് എഴുതിയ കഥ. ‘Visualize’ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത് ഷാജി കൈലാസ്.
Puzzle games പോലെയുളള സിനിമകളുണ്ടല്ലോ. പ്രത്യക്ഷത്തില് യുക്തിയൊന്നും തോന്നിക്കാത്ത സംഭവങ്ങളാകും അത്തരം ചിത്രങ്ങളില് ആദ്യമൊക്കെ. സിനിമ പുരോഗമിക്കും തോറും വിശദീകരണങ്ങള് ഓരോന്നായി നല്കി, സിനിമയിലെ അവസാനത്തെ ‘piece’ കൂടി വെക്കുമ്പോള് മാത്രമാണ് കഥ നമുക്ക് പൂര്ണ്ണമായും മനസ്സിലാവുക. വളരെ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ച് വേണം ഇത്തരം സിനിമകളെടുക്കാന്. കാരണം, ജിജ്ഞാസ തോന്നിപ്പിക്കുന്ന എല്ലാ കാര്യങ്ങള്ക്കും, കഥാന്ത്യം തൃപ്തികരമായ ഉത്തരം ലഭിച്ചില്ലെങ്കില് പ്രേക്ഷകരെ വിഡ്ഢികളാക്കിയതായിട്ടാവും അവര്ക്ക് തോന്നുക.
‘സൌണ്ട് ഓഫ് ബൂട്ടി’ന്റെ ആദ്യ പകുതിയുടെ ഘടന, മലയാളത്തിന് പുതമയുളളതാണ്. Suspense ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നതില് അത് വിജയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. സിനിമ തരക്കേടില്ലല്ലോ എന്ന് ഞാന് കരുതുകയും ചെയ്തു. പക്ഷെ രണ്ടാം പകുതി, ആദ്യപകുതിയിലെ സമസ്യകള്ക്ക് ഉത്തരം നല്കുന്നതിന് പകരം, കൂടുതല് ചോദ്യങ്ങളുയര്ത്തുകയാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്. സിനിമ കഴിയുമ്പോള്, കണ്ട രംഗങ്ങള് തമ്മില് ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തുവാന് പോലും നമുക്കാവില്ല. Plot hole-കള് അടയുന്നതിന് പകരം, സിനിമ കഴിയുമ്പോഴേക്കും, hole-കള് വലുതായി വലുതായി plot ഇല്ലതാവുകയാണ് ചെയ്യുന്നത്.
പണ്ടൊരാള്, കൊക്കിനെ പിടിക്കനായി ഒരുപായം പറഞ്ഞതോര്ക്കുന്നു. “കൊക്ക് വയലില് വന്നിരിക്കുമ്പോള്, അതിന്റെ തലയില് കുറച്ച് വെണ്ണ കൊണ്ട് വെക്കുക. വെയിലത്ത് വെണ്ണ ഉരുകിയൊലിച്ച് കൊക്കിന്റെ കണ്ണിലേക്കൊഴുകും. അങ്ങിനെ കണ്ണ് കാണാനാവാതെ നടക്കുന്ന കൊക്കിനെ എളുപ്പം പിടിക്കാം.” ഈ ചിത്രത്തിലെ നായകന്റെ കുറ്റാന്വേഷണം ഏതാണ്ടിതുപോലെയാണ്.
കഥാന്ത്യം കുറേ കൊലപാതകികള് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നത് ( അവരൊക്കെ എവിടുന്ന് വന്നു, എന്ന് വ്യാകുലപ്പെടരുത് ) Ku Klux Klan-കാരുടെ മാതിരിയുളള വേഷത്തിലാണ്. കുറേ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സിനിമകളില് ഇങ്ങനെ വേഷം കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്, എന്നാല് ഇവിടെയും ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്ന് ഈ സിനിമയെടുത്തവര് കരുതിക്കാണണം. കൊലപാതകികള് കൊല്ലാന് പോകുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ് തയ്യല് കടയില് പോയി നാലഞ്ച് പേര്ക്ക് ഇങ്ങനെ ഉടുപ്പ് തുന്നിച്ചിരിക്കും. വേറേ ഏതെങ്കിലും കുറ്റാന്വേഷണ സിനിമയായിരുന്നെങ്കില്, ഈ തയ്യല്ക്കട കണ്ടുപിടിച്ച് കുറ്റക്കാരെ എളുപ്പം കണ്ടെത്തിയേനേ. കാരണം fancy dress-ന് വേണ്ടിയല്ലാതെ ആരും ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു സാധനം നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിലിടില്ല. പടം sleek ആക്കാനും, ഷോട്ടുകള് stylish ആക്കാനും ശ്രമിക്കുന്നതൊക്കെ കൊളളാം, പക്ഷെ ഇവക്കൊക്കെ കഥയുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലവുമായിട്ട് എന്തെങ്കിലുമൊരു ബന്ധം വേണ്ടേ? കുറഞ്ഞപക്ഷം ഒരു കുറ്റാന്വേഷണ സിനിമ എടുക്കുമ്പോഴെങ്കിലും അല്പം യുക്തി കാട്ടണ്ടേ?
പശ്ചാത്തലസംഗീതവും, ‘sound effects’-ഉം പതിവുപോലെ കാതടപ്പിക്കുന്നതാണ്. എന്നാല് കഥാപാത്രങ്ങള് ഓളിയിടാത്തത് കൊണ്ടും, സിനിമക്ക് വലിയ ദൈര്ഘ്യം ഇല്ലാത്തത് കൊണ്ടും, സാധാരണ ഇത്തരം സിനിമകള് കാണുമ്പോള് വരാറുളള തലവേദന ഉണ്ടാവില്ല.
‘കമ്മിഷണര്’ ഇറങ്ങിയ കാലത്തോ മറ്റോ ആണ്. സുരേഷ് ഗോപി, താന് അഭിനയിച്ച സിനിമകളുടെ CD-കള് ഹോളിവുഡ്ഢിലെ casting directors-ന് അയച്ച് കൊടുത്തു. അടുത്ത James Bond ആവാന്. അയച്ച് കൊടുത്തിട്ട് മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നില്ല. അത് പത്രക്കാരോട് പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങിനെയാണ് ഇക്കാര്യം ഞാന് ‘ചിത്രഭൂമി’യില് വായിക്കുന്നത്.
ഷാജി കൈലാസിന്റെ സിനിമകള് നിരൂപണം അര്ഹിക്കുന്നവയല്ല. പക്ഷെ ഈ സൈറ്റ് വെറും ഒരു നേരംപോക്കിന് വേണ്ടി മാത്രമുളള ഒന്നായത് കൊണ്ടാണ് ഇത്രയും കുറിച്ചത്.

ഈ സിനിമ ആദ്യ പകുതിയെന്കിലും കൊള്ളാം
പക്ഷെ ഈ റിവ്യു പോരാ
വാക്കിന് പഴയ പോലെ ശക്തി ഇല്ല

സിനിമയുടെ ആദ്യ പകുതി നന്നായി. നല്ല രീതിയില് എടുത്തിടുണ്ട്. നിറയെ സസ്പെന്സ് ഉണ്ട്. ബോറടിച്ചില്ല. പക്ഷെ രണ്ടാം പകുതി ശരിക്ക് ബോറടിപ്പിച്ചു. ഒന്നും തന്നെ മനസിലായില്ല. ആദ്യ പകുതിയില് കണ്ട കുറെ കാര്യങ്ങള്ക് ഉത്തരം ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു. നല്ല ഒരു പ്ലോട്ട് കുളമാകി എന്ന് വേണം പറയാന്.
സുരേഷ് ഗോപിയെ ഞാന് ഇതില് കുറ്റം പറയുകയില്ല, കാരണം ടൈം സിനിമയില് കാണിച്ചത് പോലെ ഇതില് കൊമാളിതരം ഒന്നും തന്നെ ഇല്ല. മരിയാദ്യക് അഭിനയിച്ചു എന്ന് വേണം പറയാന്. അവശ്യം ഇല്ലാത്ത ഡയലോഗ് ഇല്ല താനും. അത് പോലെ തന്നെ കവിള് കുല്ലുകി ഉള്ള സ്ലോ മോഷനും ഇല്ല.
എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ട ഒരാള് രാജന് പീ ദേവ് ആണ്. സാധാരണ അദേഹം രഹസ്യം പറഞ്ഞാലും നമ്മുടെ കാതു അടിച്ച് പോകും. ഇതില് പക്ഷെ തൊള്ള തുറകാതെ സംഭാഷണം നടത്തിയുടുണ്ട്.
അവസാനത്തെ കുറച്ചു രംഗങളില് കൊലയാളികള് ഇട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന വേഷം കണ്ടാല് ചിരിച്ചു പോകും. ഹോളിവുഡ് സിനിമകളിലെ കാലന്റെ വേഷം പോലെ ഇരുന്നു.

കോപ് ….. ഈ വക കൂതറ പടം എടുത്ത ഇവന്മാരെ ഓക്കേ പൂവിട്ടു പൂജികാം. ഇവന്മാരോകെ കാരണമാണ് ഈ മലയാളം ഫിലിം industry നശിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരികുന്നത്. വെറുതെ മനസില് തോന്നിയതെല്ലാം ക്യാമറയില് പകര്ത്തി സിനിമ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു പുറത്തിറക്കും. പാവം ജനങ്ങള് കാശു കൊടുത്തു അല്ല കളഞ്ഞു സിനിമയ്ക്കു പോകും. ഇവന്മാര് ജനങ്ങളെയാണ് insult ചെയുന്നത്.
Nice review .. But really we need a detailed review … About Shaji Kailas , he looks only on shot styles [most times it is irritating us], doesnt have the capacity to understand a good script and he lacks the ability to do a neat work

Shaji kailas is probably one of the misunderstood directors in malayalam. Here is a man who has delivered some of the biggest hits in malayalam. (some of his hits are not really my favourites, however these were appreciated by the masses of kerala).
Though most of his movies are of action/thriller genre, he tackles all emotions very effectively. Who can forget the motherly affection in Baba kalyani, paternal neglect in naatturaajavu, meditation and world peace in ekalavyan, preservation of archeological treasures in aaraam thampuraan, global warming and rising water levels in narasimham, and last but not the least the romance in his largely ‘un-understood’ epic Time.
Yet the reviewer says “ഷാജി കൈലാസിന്റെ സിനിമകള് നിരൂപണം അര്ഹിക്കുന്നവയല്ല”
And the reviewer is an honouable man
അനിയ, നിനക്ക് സിനിമ കണ്ടു കണ്ടു ഭ്രാന്തു വന്നു എന്ന് തോന്നുന്നു. ഓരോ പ്രാവശ്യവും ഓരോന്ന് പറയും. കുറച്ചു നാളത്തേക്ക് സിനിമ ഒന്നും കാണണ്ട. നിനക്കും സമാധാനം കിട്ടും അതുപോലെ തന്നെ നമ്മള്കും സമാധാനം കിട്ടും.

Before presenting my view I would like to state one thing. I had named many shaji kailas movies, however the concern is about only one of them. I wouldn’t blame anybody if they feel that I have crossed permissible limits of exaggeration.
Narasimha, the original came out of a pillar. Whereas in shaji kailas’ presentation He comes of water. It is so beautifully captured that you start experience the fire in the incarnation. Essentially the movie tries to portray God emerging out of boiling water to cleanse today’s society. God’s fury is the same as what atheists call global warming.

Global warming and rising water levels is the same as God’s fury. Hindu scriptures say that at the end of every yuga, a ‘pralayam’ will come. And as far as my knowledge of this universe goes, rising water level leads to ‘pralayam’. Even christian belief speaks about this pralayam and Noah had to make a pettakam to escape from this God’s fury.
It is unfortunate that the educated malayalees here failed to understand this divine hand in narasimham. And they try to hide their stupidity by calling others stupid.
